This time, for a change, we have a guest photographer, Jim Spencer, a long-term supporter of the Whitworth Friends who offered to take some pictures of the short break they enjoyed in the North East of the country.
This is an area often overlooked as a holiday destination, but with its spectacular scenery, culturally rich cities & largely empty roads, it is a joy for visitors. Looks as if they had pretty good weather too...it's generally much drier over there than in our damper North West region!

Many thanks from us both for organising a most interesting and stimulating break in Northumberland. The hotel was comfortable and convenient, Jane efficient as nearly always and Terry a skilled and thoughtful driver! We certainly packed a lot in and am so exhausted after sorting ourselves out I quite forgot my Art Appreciation this morning! For me the highlight was seeing all the Spanish art at Bowes and Bishop Auckland and our delicious dinner at the top of the Baltic – not to mention the spectacular loo with a view! With thanks and best wishes Liz & Myles
Gosh, that was a brilliant jaunt to Northumbria but at 3pm precisely at Auckland Castle I was cultured out and slipped away from our over verbose guide to the library tea room. Very best wishes Angela
I want to thank you for organising such a wonderful holiday. I enjoyed it all. Best wishes Beryl
Just a quick note to thank you for a super trip. Even tho' I'd been to quite a few of the places before, I was able to see things I'd missed, and look at others in fresh depth. And some things, like the church at Roker, had been on my "to do" list for some time. You'd obviously put a lot of thought into the programme, and it really paid off.
Many thanks. All the best Damaris
