The Emerz Collective is a flexible, multi-instrumental ensemble who love to explore contemporary, folk and original music. They frequently collaborate with artists across many different disciplines, including dancers, poets and living composers.
The group have previously worked closely with student composers Amit Manna and Felix Do, as well as PhD composers Kuba Williams and Songhao Yao. Notable recent performances include pieces by David Fennessy at the Wigmore Hall and John’s Book of Alleged Dances during the Halle’s John Adams festival.
Upcoming performances include a performance of Steve Reich’s Different Trains as well as a collaboration with Manchester dance group Company Chameleon with music by composer Devon Bonelli.
They have received coaching and tuition from a wide range of artists, including Rakhi Singh, Seth Parker Woods and members of the Chillingirian String Quartet.
The ensemble love to improvise in folk and jazz inspired styles, playing for circle and community dances as well as jamming in kitchens and gardens. They are believers in the power of music bringing people together, playing in community engagement initiatives such as the So Many Beauties Dementia Festival, String of Hearts, and Songbirds.
