Toska String Quartet
Christina Maxfield - violin, Sam Lawson - violin
Henry Grant - viola, Cillian Hennessy - cello
Formed in 2021 by students of the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), the Toska String Quartet has received coaching from some of the UK’s leading tutors. As an ensemble they have enjoyed performing together in a number of concerts around Manchester.
Christina is studying towards a Master’s degree postgraduate under Yuri Torchinsky, leader of the BBC Philharmonic. Sam, Henry and Cillian are all in their final year of their Bachelor’s degrees.
Recently, the Toska Quartet represented the RNCM in a concert organised in collaboration with the Manchester Museum, in which they performed Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector by Terry Riley, as well as a piece written by RNCM PhD composer, Cassie Layton. They have since also had the incredible opportunity to work alongside Jeremy Young, Head of Chamber Music at the RNCM, on a piece by Chausson which they performed together in the RNCM Concert Hall.
