Heartwood String Quartet
Audrey Doyle violin
Rory Masterson violin
Michaela Jones viola
Clemens Fera cello
The Heartwood Quartet formed in 2020 over a love of chamber music in their first year of study at the RNCM. They have participated in masterclasses with Marie Bitlloch, Nic Pendlebury and Anna Menzies and engaged in coaching from Donald Grant of the Elias Quartet, Susie Mészáros of the Chilingirian Quartet and Petr Prause of the Talich Quartet. They recently appeared as quartet in residence at the Lake district Summer Music Festival, performing in venues such as Kendal Town Hall and Ambleside Parish Church.
The quartet is named after the strong heartwood of the spruce tree from which string instrument sound board tops are crafted. The spruce heartwood receives the silent string vibrations and sings them with the colour of the human voice, amplified by the maple body.
The Heartwood String Quartet appear by kind permission of the RNCM
