We are organising a 5-day trip to Kent in September 2022 travelling by private coach from Manchester and we will be accompanied by Jane Brand, our experienced and knowledgeable tour manager.
The itinerary has been planned to include and take advantage of our time when travelling to / from and whilst in Kent and we aim to include the following interesting and especially varied visits:
• Godinton House and Gardens – beautiful house and gardens dating back to the 14th century.
• Huguenot Museum, Rochester, the only museum in Britain that looks at the influential Huguenot immigrant population of weavers.
Restoration House, Satis House in Great Expectations, the home of Miss Haversham (tbc)
• Rochester Cathedral. Norman Cathedral overlooking the Medway, dating back to 604AD.
• Canterbury Cathedral – one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England which forms part of a World Heritage Site.
• Beaney House of Art, Canterbury’s central museum, library and art gallery.
• Deal – historic port and seaside town with a castle
• Romney Hyde & Dymchurch Railway – a heritage steam railway running through a designated National Nature Reserve and along one of the largest expanses of shingle in the world
• St Thomas à Becket Church – an iconic Grade I listed church which sits isolated on Romney Marsh dating back to the late 12th century
• Margate Caves – Originally dug as a chalk mine in the 18th century the caves have beautiful restored carvings and murals on the walls
• Turner Contemporary Gallery – Designed by David Chipperfield, a contemporary arts space and catalyst for the regeneration of the town of Margate
• Carl Freedman Gallery – a contemporary art gallery founded by Carl Freedman in 2003
• Down House – the former home of the English naturalist Charles Darwin and his family.
