Whitworth Park & Gallery Sculpture Trail
Tuesday 10 May 2022
This exclusive tour for FOW will look at the special maintenance carried out to keep the external sculpture in good condition. We will also take a look behind the scenes at new plans to reorganise the Whitworth sculpture store and the ongoing survey to assess the condition of the collection as a whole.
At the Whitworth, some of our sculpture is displayed outside where it can be enjoyed by visitors who come specifically to the gallery as well as the wider community who use the park. In addition to enhancing the outside environment, the sculptures may also encourage the public to come in and discover our collections and temporary exhibitions. But these artworks are also exposed to extremes of cold, rain and wind which can have a negative impact on their condition as well as accidental or deliberate damage caused by people.
In the past Lou has worked on projects to conserve sculpture managed by Historic England, the National Trust and Historic Royal Palaces.
