Few people realise that during the middle years of the nineteenth century Manchester had a large and thriving decorative glass industry, competing with the very best in the rest of the country. By the time of the first world war the industry had all but disappeared. David Willars, Chair of the Glass Society, will illustrate his talk pointing out the pioneering techniques, finishes and colours developed in Manchester.
