Apex Brass: Ben Jarvis trumpet, Tom Watts trumpet

Apex Brass is a Brass quintet formed of talented musicians based in Manchester. All studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, the group consists of Ben Jarvis and Tom Watts on Trumpet, Robert Mehlig on French Horn, Charlotte Horsfield on Trombone and Harry Beach on Tuba. Apex came together at the start of October 2018, and made their maiden performance at the RNCM’s Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble Competition in June. Despite stiff competition, Apex won the contest and therefore gained entry to the Christopher Rowland Ensemble of the Year Award, a celebration of the best chamber ensembles at the RNCM. Described as ‘stylish and convincing… showing depth, vitality and ensemble character’ at the Christopher Rowland Award Competition, Apex has taken great strides in less than a year. They hope to expand their repertoire further, and look forward to sharing their passion for chamber music at their recital this afternoon.

19th Jan: Komorebi Saxophone Quartet
The Komorebi Saxophone Quartet just recently formed at the Royal Northern College of Music. Under the tutelage of Rob Buckland, the members, Connor O’Toole (soprano), Kezia Lovick-Jones (alto), Sarah Austen (tenor) and Tasuku Noguchi (baritone), have played together in different formations in the past and are now looking forward to performing a varied programme at the Whitworth Art Gallery in January 2020.
2nd Feb: Quora Flute Quartet
Quora Flute Quartet is an up and coming ensemble based in Manchester, comprising of four flautists from three countries within the UK and beyond. Jack, Katie, Carina and Rachael met in 2017 at the Royal Northern College of Music. After a musical meeting of minds, Quora Flute Quartet was formed. Recent highlights include; highly commended in the RNCM Fewkes Price, and concert appearances in Manchester Cathedral and Didsbury Coffee Concert Series.
23rd Feb: Ensemble Cosmopolitan
Made up of Hong Kongese flautist Lok-yin Hui, British oboist Jessica Vinson, Korean clarinettist Michael Choi, German/Swedish hornist Robert Mehlig, and Swiss bassoonist Leonardo Bizzotto, the group's name reflects the international nature of its membership. Under the guidance of Laura Jellicoe and Stefano Canuti, the group has performed in various concerts, masterclasses, and competitions since its formation in 2018. Notably, the group performed in a masterclass presented by the Haffner Wind Ensemble and was recently awarded the Fewkes Woodwind Chamber Music Prize. Also, Ensemble Cosmopolitan has been invited to join ChoiMan Company as their artist. Ensemble Cosmopolitan is delighted and grateful to receive the generous support of June Emerson Wind Music through their Launchpad Prize.
8th March: Belspa Ensemble
Belspa Ensemble is an international and versatile duo consisting of Belgian harpist, Eva Maeyaert and Spanish-born flautist, Angel ParejaFrancisco. They venture into a range of repertoire with upcoming performances in and around Manchester.
