3 Day Friends' Tour To Amsterdam
Wednesday 27 November 2019
Following the success of last year’s short tour to Vienna to see the Peter Bruegel exhibition, we are organising a visit to Amsterdam (and Leiden) to see, amongst other things, the Rijksmuseum’s ‘Rembrandt and Velazquez: Dutch and Spanish Masters’ exhibition, where we will have a private tour.
We will be flying direct from Manchester at 09.05 on Wednesday 27th November and returning to Manchester late afternoon on Saturday 30th November. Both flights are with KLM. The tour group will be staying at the Hotel Jan Luyken, in central Amsterdam.
The trip will also include visits to several other galleries in Amsterdam and Leiden -
- the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, with a special guided tour of the collection focusing on Stedelijk Base - the permanent installation of iconic works from the Museum’s collection.
- the Museum de Lakenhal in Leiden for a guided tour of the ‘Young Rembrandt - Rising Star’ exhibition, devoted exclusively to the earliest work of Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn (1606-1669) and will include some 40 paintings, 120 etchings and 20 drawings, united here for the first time.
- the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam for a guided tour of the Jen Francois Millet exhibition titled ‘Sowing the Seeds of Modern Art’.
This tour being close to Christmas, there should be plenty of seasonal events in Amsterdam itself, including markets, ice skating (!) and a light festival, so we have built in plenty of free time to explore the city or visit other attractions like the Rembrandt House Museum, where Rembrandt once lived.
The cost of the three night tour will be £1180 per person and includes return KLM flights from Manchester, based on hand luggage only (12 kg per person) - although check-in luggage can be added for an additional charge of £30 per bag. All hotel accommodation is based on double occupancy, in standard (22 sq m) en-suite rooms, and there is a single-room supplement of £220 per person. If you would prefer a smaller single room (14 to 17 sq m), the single room supplement would be £160 per person.
The tour price also includes all visits and private guided tours as specified, a welcome and farewell lunch and a 3 day (72 hour) ‘iAmsterdamPass’ which gives free access to many galleries and museums, as well as free travel on Amsterdam’s extensive public transport system.
Full details about this tour, and booking forms, have been e-mailed to Friends of the Whitworth. Those not on e-mail will receive information by post.
Completed booking forms, for each traveller, and deposits of £200 per person, should be received by Distant Horizons no later than 23rd August 2019, but it should be stressed that you should get your booking in as soon as possible, as numbers are limited to 25 participants and bookings will be on a first come, first served basis.
