Broma Duo
Paula O’Malley percussion
Paula started playing percussion at the age of nine in her hometown of Paisley, Scotland. Spending four years at the Junior Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, she was principal percussionist of all orchestras there and won the prestigious Colin Currie Young Percussionist Award. Paula is now in her final year of study for her undergraduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. In September 2019, she will move to London to commence her postgraduate degree at the Royal College of Music in London.
As a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland for six years, she has played at prestigious concert halls, including the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Additionally, Paula toured internationally to Japan, New York, France, Ireland and to the KKL Luzern as both a soloist and member of the Black Dyke Band for three years.
Andrew Broome clarinet
Andrew has studied clarinet with Jennifer and David Murray from the age of 16. At age 18, Andrew performed his first concerto performance and also partook in an audition for the Royal Northern College of Music. He completed his Bachelor of Music with Honours at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2018 and is now studying for a 'Master of Music in Performance' there. Andrew was in the final of the 2018/19 RNCM Concerto Competition, playing Rossini’s 'Introduction, Theme and Variations.'
Andrew enjoys every aspect of performing, as well as teaching. A teacher at Yorkshire Young Musician in Hull, he teaches clarinet, chamber music and theory. Additionally, Andrew is a member of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment (4Lancs) with whom he has performed Weber’s 'Concertino' in Liverpool.

Thursday 11 April 2019 SPECIAL EVENT for FoW AGM 5.45 pm to 7 pm: The Abelia Saxophone Quartet - an award-winning chamber group of RNCM graduates. In 2016 they performed at the Brighton Fringe Festival, and as BBC Young Artists live on Radio 3, at the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, at St Martin-in-the-Fields and at The Lowry. In 2017 they toured China, gave a recital in Porto (Portugal) at the European Saxophone Congress and toured Switzerland with music they arranged for saxophone ensemble.
Sunday 14 April 2019:Brass Quartet Menine –this brass ensemble was formed in 2016 and is becoming renowned for their performances. By arranging and commissioning new works, Quartet Menine has a blank slate from which to create showcasing their favourite repertoire. Fresh from their appearance at the Royal Overseas League Music Competition, the quartet are back in Manchester to perform an eclectic programme of Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy, Bartok, Tenacious D, as well as commissions by Manchester composers James Keirle and Illiam Quane.
