Vaughan taught Procktor at the Slade School in London in the late Fifties/early Sixties, and Ian will describe the influence Vaughan had on Procktor and his generation. He will also refer to aspects of autobiography to be found in each artist’s work, including the ways in which each encoded their homosexuality in paint. This will be set within a broader context of artistic and social developments, in defining the work of Vaughan and Procktor within the history of modern British painting.
