Charlotte Badham is a mezzo-soprano studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. Last year, she achieved her BMus(Hons) with first class honours and is now in her first year of postgraduate studies. Charlotte is the recipient of The Annie Ridyard Scholarship 2016, The Fergal O’Mahony Musician Award 2016, and was a finalist in the Frederic Cox Prize 2017. This year, Charlotte has performed in her first opera gala abroad in Florence and has partaken in a workshop residency with Opera North. Furthermore, Charlotte was on the Young Artists Programme at the internationally renowned Buxton Opera Festival where she appeared in the chorus of Verdi’s Macbeth.
James Girling James is a guitarist at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he is continuing as a postgraduate student having achieved the BMus(Hons) with first class honours on the RNCM’s Accelerated Pathway. In June 2016, James won the RNCM Gold Medal Competition, the conservatoire’s most prestigious award, as a result of which he gave his Wigmore Hall debut recital on classical guitar in March 2017. Recently, James has also been awarded the Biddy Baxter and John Hosier Music Trust’s Special Award. Self-taught as a jazz and classical guitarist from an early age, James was then awarded the Advanced Young Musician Scholarship by the Warwickshire County Music Service to study classical guitar with Martin Högman. As the guitarist in the RNCM Big Band, James has performed alongside eminent British jazz musicians and was broadcast live on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ programme.
