Southport & Liverpool
Thursday 15 October 2015
We will be welcomed to Southport’s Atkinson Art Gallery by Director Stephen Whittle, who will talk about the exhibition Rediscoveries. Research of the permanent collection has uncovered previously unknown or thought lost, drawings and prints by CRW Nevinson, Augustus John & Keith Vaughan. Also Elemental an exhibition of drawings by Antony Gormley.
The coach will drive to Liverpool Tate Gallery for Jackson Pollock: Blind Spots the first exhibition in more than 30 years to explore the artist’s ‘black pourings’, a lesser known but extremely influential part of his practice.
There will be time for lunch in the Albert Dock area.
We will then visit the Walker Art Gallery for the Reality Exhibition. Walter Sickert, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, LS Lowry, George Shaw, Alison Watt and John Bratby are just some of the artists who star in this stunning exhibition, which explores the role of painting within contemporary art. Six decades of British painting are represented by more than 50 works.
