Day trip to York
Friday 04 September 2015
We start the day in York Minster, one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals. It is a masterpiece in stained glass and stone. In the Lady Chapel is the Great East Window, the largest expanse of medieval stained glass to be seen anywhere.
We will visit the newly opened York Art Gallery with its collections of European Fine Art including early C20th and an extensive collection of British Studio Pottery with work by Bernard Leach and Lucie Rie
After lunch (not included) we will take the coach to the Quilt Museum & Gallery for a curator talk on the collection. We are just in time to see the summer exhibition, Ancestral Gifts, created in collaboration with their patron Kaffe Fassett, In addition to his stunning new quilts, Fassett has also lent items from his studio, books, textile designs and things he has collected on his travels.
We finish today with a brief visit the School House Gallery for a Private Preview of an exhibition by contemporary artist Jake Attree.
